Miss Shirley's Cafe- Location: Inner Harbor

Miss Shirley's cafe was rated best breakfast in Maryland in 2010 and I know why!

Miss Shirley's Cafe has two locations in the Baltimore area. The original cafe is located on Coldspring Lane and is a hop and a skip from Loyola. But the location that I visited is attached to the Constellation Energy building right across from the harbor, and because of its location I noticed it quite frequently and every notice drew my attention. One day me and the hubby just decided to go, or more I convinced him to go and he obliged (lol)
In the warm summer months many of the cafe's customers dine outside under a white tent with clear, plastic looking walls. This is a much needed accommodation for this restaurant since almost every time we visit, we encounter a crowd, especially on a Saturday, which is a day that we first visited. Upon entering I was instantly met by a sea of tables and the Host. I asked him for a table for two, he put my name down and told me there would be about a 45 minute wait!! I took the pager from him, unwilling to let the possible long wait break my spirit of visiting a new place, and sat in the waiting area. I must mention that parking wise, the harbor location is not ideal. It can be quite gruesome trying to find a parking spot; in fact most of my time in the waiting area was spent alone because Har was finding a park ( poor guy... but I thank him.)

We were seated at our tight squeezed table and I instantly took in the menu. It was pretty southern influenced, and if you know me you know I love me some southern food cause its good eatin down there! We ordered a mini feast. I ordered sweet potato griddle cakes, bacon, and shredded potato and onion hash browns. Har ordered 'shirley's affair with oscar' (I dont know where the name comes from) which came with (2) two ounce beef filets, eggs, shredded hash browns and some other great stuff. My sweet potato griddle cakes were ok, but they tasted more like pumpkin than sweet potato and they were a little sweeter than I would like. But I lovvvvvvveeeeddd Har's meal. It was delicious. He seemed less enthused about it, but that was okkk with me because I had no problem helping him finish it off.

Since our initial visit we have been back like two more times. And we've tried the sweet potato fries which are the best I have ever had ( they are always hot and crisp), Nana's grilled cheese (includes bacon) ; its good but a little greasy for my liking, and the Pratt Street burger (burgers are always delicious). Oh and my favorite, the grits!!! They are very creamy, buttery and best of all made with mascarpone cheese and bacon!

All in all Miss Shirley's is a great place to visit! However, there are a few things I think I should mention/recap:
It's usually crowded, parking can be a hassle (There is a parking garage if you choose), and weird hours      (They close at 3 pm on weekdays and 3:30 on the week end). So, if these "issues" don't bother you, it is definitely worth a go!!!!
