So, I’m from the Land of Pizza (Chicago Baby!!!!) and if you know nothing about Chicagoans you should know that we love our pizza! If you come with some pizza, you better come correct.
That is why I was enthused when I saw an episode of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" because it featured a local Baltimore pizza joint, B.O.P. According to Guy, the host of the show, and the customers, the pizza was the best in town. Since the show aired I had been breakin my neck to get to that place!
If you see the date above, you can see that we went on St. Patrick ’s Day and Fells point was filled with locals hopping bars. Upon entering B.O.P i noticed that it was a small place, but nowhere by far the smallest I’ve seen, and it was crowded. I took the crowd as a sign that the pizza was GOOD! The crowd inside was lively and rowdy; I took it to be the effect of the alcohol. The prices of the pizza where $15-20 each, which I think people from Baltimore would consider pretty pricy, but in Chicago that’s the typical price for a pizza so I wasn’t fazed!
The Hubby and I decided upon the mushroom and Canadian bacon pizza. The wait for the pizza seemed a little long, 20 mins., but I gave it the benefit of the doubt cause it was really crowded. Then it finally arrived!! I was so ready to be amazed.... but I wasn’t. The pizza was a letdown. There was too much sauce for my liking and the flavor just wasn’t there. I was disappointed by the small slices of bacon because I was expecting chunks. Plus they seemed to be a little stingy with the toppings. Harlley wasn’t happy either; he also thought there was too much sauce and not enough bacon! The cheese was the best thing about the pizza; unfortunately, i cheese alone cannot carry a pizza!!!!!
This sure didn’t make me feel like I was at home tasting pizza of previous better-pizza-days. I left B.O.P HIGHLY unsatisfied. I could have had Pizza Bolis' light sauce, chicken and mushroom pizza and been WAY more satisfied! I’m not sure if I will ever give B.O.P another try... I don’t know if my heart can take another build up and let down. I guess time will have to tell.
I don't know if i can trust "triple D" anymore after the disappointment of B.O.P. Should i give the show another chance?
ReplyDeleteI have a major sweet tooth so will definitely be dreaming about this until it becomes a reality..
